Protect the whenua
Keep the whenua safe and cared for, for the uri who come after us.
Nau mai, haere mai
A whānau kaupapa to care for our whenua and urupā, and to build a home base for the generations to come.
He Mihi
Kia ora e te whānau,
Welcome to Te Papakāinga o Ngā Uri o Taumore. Whether you live close to the whenua or far from it, this is a place to stay connected to our tūpuna, our urupā and each other.
Taumore has been carried by generations of whānau, through hui, working bees and quiet acts of care. We are grateful to everyone who has helped keep this kaupapa alive.
Our responsibility is to the wider Taumore whānau, to the vision of our tūpuna, and to future generations. We look forward to building the future of Taumore together.
Ngā mihi,
Taumore Whānau
Ō Mātou Whenua
Taumore is a whānau place at Waitakaruru in the Hauraki district, home to our urupā and our whare. It connects many whānau lines through the tūpuna we share.
For decades whānau have looked after this place together, through hui, working bees, urupā care and small regular koha. That care carries on today.
Kaupapa
These are our hopes for Taumore. They are aspirations in progress, and each one will take time.
Keep the whenua safe and cared for, for the uri who come after us.
Look after our urupā and those who rest there, with care and respect.
Explore homes on the whenua, so whānau can live close to each other and to this place.
Explore shared spaces for whānau in the future, including a wharenui.
Papakāinga Plan
The whānau are working through a proposed plan in three stages.
Wastewater design first, then water, power and a plan for the site.
Concept image only. Not a final design.
A place for the whānau to gather, with a wharenui, kitchen and ablutions.
Concept image only. Not a final design.
Papakāinga homes for whānau, in numbers and sizes still to be worked through.
Concept image only. Not a final design.
Every stage here is proposed and in development. Nothing is final.
Te Whenua
Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho
The whānau of Taumore descend from Hori Taumore and Rangihauata Te Muri, through the Castle whānau lines.
The tupuna whose name the whānau carries. His wife was Rangihauata Te Muri.
Their daughter Parewheuruangi Taumore married William Thomas Castle.
Thomas was the son of Parewheuruangi and William. The Castle whānau lines descend from Thomas and Emily Roka.
Our full whakapapa will sit behind a members login in a later stage. Whānau can register their interest now.
